A glimpse of the rail traffic in Hamburg, Germany. February 2017. Germany's second-largest city is praised with a frequent, well-maintained and extensive public transport network. Several U-Bahn (Underground) and S-Bahn (Suburban) lines connect the city with all of its outskirts as well as a lot of suburbs. Besides the U- and S-Bahn networks, Hamburg is well connected with its nearby region by a lot of regional rail services and the rest of the country by Intercity and ICE-trains. This 34-minute video mostly covers Hamburg's U-Bahn and S-Bahn network, filmed at a couple of locations in the city. Ofcourse this video does not cover the whole extensive network, but it hopefully gives you a good glimpse of what you can expect when you travel through Hamburg by rail. The AKN network, oper...

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is the main hub of the metro network, between the four lines can be switched, and also the busiest subway station in Hamburg. Already in the first plans for the metro was a line to the densely populated but poorly accessible Eimsbuettel. This part of Hamburg, located north of the (then) Prussian border. Also, Siemens & Halske and AEG had already made plans for a branch of the ring. Only after the Parliament of Hamburg was specifically addressed the construction of the route at their expense, the plan could be realized. The route was on May 23, 1914 ready. After the seizure of power by the National Socialists and the outbreak of World War II, Hamburg was the Allies bombed several times. This had major consequences for the Hamburg metro. Characteristic of the Hamburg network are the large proportion of aboveground sections as well as the majority route from downtown to the north and the east parts of the city. The urban area south of the Elbe River and west of the former border between Hamburg and Altona is not currently served by the subway. The power of the Hamburg U-Bahn has four lines with 91 and 101 stops, if the lines served by several stations are counted more than once. After implementation of the specified measures were ended 2016 line 74 stops without steps, the U2 and U4 would be the first high-speed railway lines Hamburg completely barrier free. Hamburg was after Berlin (1902) and Schöneberg (1910, today the Berlin subway U4 ) the third German city with its own subway. It was not until the early 1970s came Munich (1971) and Nuremberg (1972) added a metro system. The ticket sales at the Hamburg elevated railway was the first decades carried out by staff in ticket offices at bus stops inputs. The in- and outflow to and from the platforms were controlled by staff. Most were in Passi meters the tickets punched in access to and controlled and collected on departure. The trains were handled in Hamburg for a long time by supervisors (stops guards) on the platform. They monitored the passengers and, provided the door closing and Abfahrauftrag initially trowel to co-moving train attendants, after the introduction of electrically serviced signals (close doors, shut-down) directly to the train driver. The eastern branch of the forest villages railway was originally to be continued beyond the current terminus Großhansdorf addition to the north. In the time belonged to Hamburg exclave two stations were planned to - the stop Beimoor was until 1918 even almost completed - to the catchment area of a planned residential area and a then as "lunatic asylum" referred to connect to public transport. As a result of the First World War and lack of material in the electrification of the railway station was never put into operation, although on the embankment to get there already rails were laid. Through the Greater Hamburg Act, these areas moved from Hamburg to Prussia, so no more interest was a start-up. The building was largely abandoned after the Second World War for the procurement of construction materials. The still existing remains of the plant are used bats hibernate in. The history of the Hamburg elevated railway began in the late 19th century with the idea of such a mode of transport. However I don´t know if the sound of it is a feature or not. And a ride from one station to the other. At Hafencity Universität the lighting colour is changing. In my opinion the new stations look nice. And there are already some passengers that use Überseequartier frequently. However at the moment short trains consisting of a DT4 unit with 4 carriages serving the stations every 10 minutes are suitable. Enjoy.

----------------- This video shows all train types of the Hamburg metro in service at the three different platforms at the Central Station. All metro lines stop here. A big difference to the pathethic central station in Berlin. The oldest type is the DT3E, most of them were scrapped this year, but there are still some units remaining for rush hour and for back-up. There are also different sub-series of the DT4 to be seen here which have different sounds. And the newest train type DT5 which is still in delivery but there is already a planned new type named DT6. Enjoy the video.

The AKN network, operating north of Hamburg is unfortunately not covered in this compilation. But I'm pretty sure there are other videos around covering the AKN :) Enjoy! © 2017 All rights reserved. Theoretisch könnte man sicher jedes beliebige Geräusch einspielen. --------------- This video shows the metro of Hamburg. I filmed mostly line U3, but also a little bit U1 and U2. The U3 is still mainly served by the old and reliable DT3E trains, but also some of the new DT5 trains were recorded. These trains seem to be a worthy replacement for them. The design is inspired by the DT3 trains and the overall impression was good. The DT5 trains close their doors automatically after a while to avoid that the trains become too cold inside. Passengers can open them while the train is still at the station. The dispatching system was changed so the announcement "Zurückbleiben bitte"("step back") was removed, the doors close after the chime. The DT4 and DT5 already have a door chime, the DT3E got it after over 40 years in service. However as the announcement was already saved in the memory of the trains it can be also considered as some kind of chime and it seems possible to use every sound file you want. During the time of the recordings there was no train service between St. Pauli and Sternschanze. There was also a shuttle train in service between Sternschanze and Schlump. A very short ride - I presume it was very boring for the drivers. Some recordings were made during the evening. I also recorded a DT3E long train on U1(normally served by DT4). Enjoy.
